Come out to San Pedro and meet some fellow Mensans for no particular reason at all! No serious discussions here - unless of course you want to have one! This is more to knock back a Blueberry Blonde and munch on a pretty decent fried chicken sammich than anything else. We had a great turnout in May, looking for an even bigger one this month. Paul Klos, Dinesh Padiyar, and Stan West will be hosting at the San Pedro Brewing Co., 331 W. 6th St, San Pedro, 90731. Contact Stan West at toppkcat@aol.com or 310 339 8095 with questions.

We are now on Zayin, Z, on the Hebrew alphabet, which gives us Zambia and Zimbabwe. Unlike the Roman alphabet, Greek and Hebrew have the Z sound as only the sixth and seventh letter. There is no specific Zambian or Zimbabwean restaurant in Los Angeles, so let's do African. Let's do Sumptuous African Restaurant in Marina Del Rey. This hole in the wall place, with branches in Inglewood and Long Beach, is the self-proclaimed best African restaurant in L.A. County. The Marina location is at 4002 Lincoln Boulevard right at the corner of Washington. To RSVP, contact Kedem Har-Shalom at kedem524@yahoo.com […]

Welcome to my new event where we will be exploring the various restaurants at the western end of the GLAAM region- Calabasas, Agoura, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, Malibu, Simi Valley, and Moorpark. We will sometimes be doing Woodland Hills, as that place has a bunch of good ethnic restaurants we don't want to miss, and also be going as far west as Ventura. But first up is Brent's Deli in Thousand Oaks/ Westlake. This offshoot of the classic Northridge deli features all your favorite Jewish comfort foods- matzo ball soup, potato knish, corned beef on rye, etc. After the demise of Jerry's […]

This month we are doing one of Jonathan Gold's 101 favorite restaurants. Guisado's began in 2010 in Boyle Heights serving Mexican food not of the fast food, taqueria, mom and pop restaurant, or sit down place type, but rather true home style cooking. The corn tortillas are handmade and the food tastes very fresh, and the food still comes at a very modest price. They have eight locations around Greater L.A. and the Hermosa Beach location is the first in the South Bay, opening just last December. The menu is very simple, but it includes some unique items. In addition to […]
Hosted by Stan West in Ladera Heights (near Culver City), this is one of the oldest continuous monthly group meetings. Five of those lucky people will be randomly chosen to read their stuff to the rest of the group for some constructive criticism. Those not chosen will get accolades from their fellow authors for helping the others chase that dream, and some great food! Vegetarian options will be available. Contact Stan West […]
