Ocean Biomimicry

Drawing inspiration from nature, especially the ocean, this hands-on workshop will look at examples in design and invention to encourage participants to create their own nature inspired work.
Alice Taylor, a director at the Los Angeles Maritime Institute and former market researcher, product and services designer, and librarian is the creator of Ocean Biomimicry course work for elementary through high school students. She taught Ocean Biomimicry to LAUSD enrichment students throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.
Join her as she leads Kids Track in fun and learning activities inspired by the ocean and its inhabitants.

2:30 – 3:20 pm

Werewolf howling at a giant full moon

Host: Ed You

Kids’ Werewolf

By night, werewolves kill off villagers. By day, angry villagers kill off suspected werewolves. (But oops; sometimes they just kill off “innocent villagers.”) “Werewolf” requires observation, some deduction, and a lot of bold-faced lying. Who will prevail: the werewolves or the villagers? Since an average game takes 15-20 minutes, new players can join quickly. (This game is similar to, but better than, “Mafia.”) This version is designed especially for kids (and maybe their parents).

Host: Wyatt Ly-Huynh

Kids’ Games

Gifted Youth member Wyatt Ly-Huynh will be a Game Leader, and will be available to teach Kids how to play games.  You will find him throughout the day in the Games Area of Topaz.
